Mandatory skills

– Basic knowledge in optics and/or microwave electronics.
– Rigor in performing calculations and deriving solutions.
– Interest and initiative to learn new skills.
– Computational thinking and automation in Python or other scientific programming languages.
– Communication skills (written/oral) in English

Skills that will make the difference

– Experience with modeling optics and/or integrated photonics, ideally with computational tools such as Lumerical, Tidy3D, COMSOL, or similar software.
– Experience and aptitude for modeling RF, electromagnetic, or other FEM modeling problems such as heat transfer, fluid mechanics, etc.
– Understanding of fabrication processes required to produce designed integrated optical devices, and the design restrictions they impose.
– Experience in quantum optics (theory and/or experiment).
– Work in theory coupled to experiment.
– A hands-on mindset

Internships are available to those with work/resident permits for Switzerland, or EU citizens (limited exceptions may apply). Shorter internship durations may be available under limited circumstances.
